Electoral College ensures states with low population still have a say in electing the president. All states get 3 electors no matter how small. Another good thing about the electoral college is it makes candidates campaign in states they would not under a popular vote system, it makes candidates care about rural voters instead of just campaigning in big cities. The electoral college helps keep the country together so the rural people don't get crushed in every election and try to succeed from the US.
