It's just strange to me, as Americans have always not only been known for but prided themselves on a certain standard of intellectual individualism, yet I've noticed a rigid dichotomy manifest recently and it isn't one of left vs right but rather pragmatic acceptance vs defensive dogmatic insistence that America is and always will be without flaw. How much do department managers get paid? The universal pay is 11 at Wally world and I am wondering if they pay like 14 or 15 for managers.

Starting wage is 12 bucks for most departments, but you only have to work one weekend day a month. If you're in a department that has to run a cash register (sporting goods, electronics, garden) or one of the grocery departments, starting wage is 15 but you have to work Saturdays every week. Once you get into salaried positions the hours you work are so long that you actually end up making less per hour than hourly supervisors.

I've worked at Walmart for just over 6 years and I've lost the bright-eyed idealism I used to have but I'm comfortable with my situation. I don't have any desire to advance further because I have way more free time than a working adult in a stable financial situation should admit to having, and I'm good enough at my job that everyone else knows how shitty things would be if I weren't there. in my experience it's people like me who have been there a while and have come to grips with their station that tend to be the most relaxed and well-adjusted, the ones who go into management are usually the ones who end up getting pissed off and depressed about it.
