Honestly, I don't even really give a shit about The Little Mermaid (The Lion King, Mulan, Treasure Planet & Aladdin were more my speed) and I have all but lost faith in Disney movies since classic animation died off... but the shit that pisses me off is how WILLFULLY tokenized ALL of us are. Everyone is so fucking hypocritical but I'm just gonna come out and say it - black people are the WORST here. We all piss and moan saying how fucked it is when a historically *insert skin color here* character is ret-conned to some other identity. Make no mistake, Disney doesn't give a SHIT about your struggle, perceived injustices, institutionalized nonsense, blah fucking blah. They care about their bottom line. Oh but you already knew that? Oh yeah go ahead and sip your tea while you show up to shill out for these movies at a disproportional rate as a collective and somehow that's a BRAGGING RIGHT?!?! Just create some fucking excuses for this shit as long as it pushes your rhetoric in the moment and then go back to bitching when the tables are turned. Plus I'm white so just sweep it under the rug.
These companies want to take advantage of that pathological race obsession and division to get cheap viral marketing. Every. Single. Live action Disney movie remake is shit. They will ALWAYS be shit. And the cycle of outrage is ALWAYS the same. No one initially gives a shit. No one hears about it until one sperg online makes an innocuous meme and then all of the usual blue check-mark, manipulative twitter activists start spreading that shit to get their juicy clicks all while fear mongering and dividing race relations even farther. Black social media picks it up, and in one breath say how they fucking hate racism, and then IMMEDIATELY start waving these hand picked memes around as a justification to relish in their own contempt for white people. They want to combat racism by basically forcing you to educate your children from a young age about race realism.
