I personally have met democrats (from the US and locally) that called me a fascist simply because I believe that if you won't allow a random person to just barge in through your front door, go to the fridge, eat everything inside then go to your room and nap then why do you allow it to happen to your nation? Fascist governments so far have been incompetent enough they haven't had to be infiltrated. Authoritarian leaders are so concerned with consolidating power that they destroy the systems that pressure governments to at least select leaders that are somewhat competent. Look at the Imperial Japanese military and the power struggles between the army and navy, or Hitler's stupid tactical decisions, or Italy being, well Italy. Fascist governments do not promote the best people for the job to the positions where they would do the most good, they are biased towards the power hungry, the paranoid, and the yes-men.

I grew up similar except we were poor due to the fact that I have 8 siblings. Not a good financial move, but my dad busted his ass and made 80k a year just so we could live in a small shitty town where everyone around us made 20k but could afford better stuff than us because of their welfare checks.
