A T-800 time traveling to the past to protect John, but failing. (According to the leaks, this plot point has not changed even though the John in the new cut has not died)
The Dani Ramos character is the leader of the resistance, even though John Conner is supposedly alive in the new cut of the film.
The new Skynet AI is a new variation of a Terrorist hunting AI that "remembers" Skynet, and then goes berserk.
The dialogue hamfistedly adds lines like "we don't need men" into the dialogue for woke points.
The Dani Ramos character is a sterotypical stronk sassy latina, and test screeners said the character feels like a self-insert. "There is no nice way to put it but they really do replace John with a Mexican girl for no other reason than to replace John with a Mexican girl."
This recent marketing is literally just in response to the leaks, so they can get ahead of the bad reaction the film's writing is going to get. A Blockbuster Franchise dying a horrible death is something they want to avoid happening.

As a followup, I am not a part of the Hollywood world, but I have a friend that is. He works in the production end, and regularly interacts with all the facets of filming a movie. His time in Hollywood includes time with NBC affiliated network television programs and movies that include period settings or are considered "Westerns." He's told me some things about script pitching in Hollywood:
Studios are scared to death of a bomb, so they try to option as many existing properties as possible before taking original scripts. Ever wonder why everything is sequels, prequels and requels? This is why.
Because Studios are scared to death of a bomb, if the movie doesn't have a projection into the +$120 million return range, they won't touch it. Ever wonder why there hasn't been a new Requiem For a Dream or similar quality film floating out there in the last 15 years? This is why.
Studios are funded by investors, and a lot of times those investors have agendas. This isn't new, but the influence of the purse has become more dominating in the last few years. Even Disney isn't immune. Ever wonder why there's so much "stronk woman" bullshit in major motion pictures? This is why.
Because of the facts above, the easiest way to get a script optioned in Hollywood is to take an existing property, crank up the volume of action to 11, and then woke it the fuck up. Removing any one of these elements almost guarantees the death of your project. There are ways to fudge it, which studios have done in the past. The easiest way is to take your idea, publish it as a web series or comic book, and then use that to catapult your script over the piles of other contenders. Somewhere in that pile is the new Shawshank Redemption, the new Pulp Fiction, or the new Goodfellas, but you'll never see it because studios fear the wrong kind of controversy more than they want to make the next new classic.
So from here on out, you're getting Captain Marvel and Black Panther.
