As much as a lot of this Internet censorship is happening people really don't like the concept of free speech taken away and if there is going to be an overreach that causes a war or a break off this will be the straw but don't expect it on the table for another 2 election cycles.

This country can't exist under a single party system, regardless of the party. I'm not sure what kind of scenario you'd be looking at, but I can think of several, and the common theme is a monoparty government on an unhindered legislative and judicial spree to the glee of about half the country and resentment of the other half, and either lead to destruction, or the emergence of a new party to take the defunct party's place. The problem with a new party is it would probably be purple at best.
In my experience, the Democrats are either begging for concessions from the dominant Republicans (who gutlessly concede where they do not have to), or offering no mercy to the powerless Republicans while they stomp all over them (such as in Oregon just last month). They are the ones that would set this scenario into motion.
