It is a reality that 16 or 17yr olds have relationships. Actually, this is actively promoted by the mass media and has been promoted ever since the 1950s. However, the question of age difference has become an increasingly weird subject. Just 10-20yrs ago, a couple with her aged 17 and him aged 21 wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. Today it does. Going to the 1960s, a Christian couple with her being 16 and him being 30 also didn’t raise much eyebrows. But today it can land you in jail for decades.
Should society not sit down and set clear societal, common sense rules? They can’t have it both ways, promote (sexual) relationships for teenagers and then say a fuzzily defined age difference is evil, when it wasn’t evil in the past.
tldr - it should either be, no relationships before you turn 18... or you are fine starting 15 or 16 even with a larger age difference... or just define an acceptable age difference like half your age plus 7 as legally and societally accepted.
Yes, it seems fine. But in America, this can mean 20yrs of prison.

Interesting. We had girls in high school date people aged 18 to 25 here and nobody said anything. Actually, all the other girls were envious because those guys had cars, motorcycles and often some money when they had already started working.

Not everywhere is 16 legal. You are half 16 and 17 and half the population in 18 aoc states.
If you ask me, there should be a federal law to uniformally set it to 16. How can it make sense to drive with your gf on vacation to California and be arrested there, while in Seattle you are good.

The average age for marriage/consent before the civil war was 12. In the 50s-60s rock stars would be bedding 14yr olds and their liberal parents would approve. In the 80s many places still considered 15 legal. You can't judge the past by today's standards.
