i lived in santa monica and worked for youtube at the end of centinela. it was getting bad when i left. homlessness is getting out of control, the traffic is terrible, even with my tech job, i couldn't afford a house in a good neighborhood, all the hipsters i knew were pretty miserable desu. venice and santa monica are basically daytona beach but with 5x rental cost.
