I read it long before I ever knew of Jow Forums. I struggled with the question of my own personal successes or failures and how they relate to my psyche and beliefs. I ultimately came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what I believe, the facts are what the facts are regardless of how I feel.

It's interesting you bring it up though because it does serve as a decent handbook for understanding the left. They really don't have doubts or engage in self criticism. It's quite strange the extent to which they are true believers without realizing it.

The book examines the left as much as the right. The central idea is that fanatics and true believers are all the same, psychologically, regardless of whether they are left wing, right wing, religious, non-religious.

In an earlier age I suppose many people with those psychological persuasions would have been involved in religious structures. I've heard it said that both Hitler and Stalin had been in church schools as children with intent on becoming priests. In a social sense the failure of organized religion has possibly unleashed an unending torrent of personalities looking for something to follow. It was the hubris of Christianity to believe that by science they could prove what can only be known through faith.

Anyone with a skeptical mind will know he's just a National Socialist-hating Jew, who ignores the established psychological causes of reactionary movements (the desire for greatness, the harmonization of the group and the individual, the reconstruction of a state and society based on the principles of Order and Unity, the respect for culture and tradition, and the protection of the Family unit), all to fit his own agenda (which is presumably to belittle and make up stories about the people who form the basis of it all).

Which is perhaps the greatest problem of all. The driving motivations and mindset behind Communist/etc "mass movements" and Ultranationalist/etc "mass movements" are radically different.

The desire of people who join Ultranationalist movements are rooted in Reactionary thinking. A mixture of Nostalgia and an emotional feeling which hasn't got an agreed upon name (C.S Lewis supported using "Sehnsucht", which is basically a nostalgic-like yearning for something which a person never experienced). They wish to take the comfort of their childhood and combine it with their views of Greatness from their ancestors. They draw inspiration from the past to protect the world they know. They don't want to tear down the great man and equalize, they want to be the springboard of great men. It's about having each other's back, and improving their lot in life by improving the lot of others.

Communists and other Egalitarians are entirely different. The core emotions behind their supporters are Envy, followed by Jealousy,which turns to Spite. They want to tear down the old out of anger, they want to rewrite history so that those who existed beforehand that were better than them are destroyed. Unity is used as an excuse to punish their betters as "deviants" and "rogues". The ideology is used as a bludgeon. THey don't want to self improve, they want to reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator.

The supporter swapping that went on between the National Socialists and the Communists in Germany before 1933 was only between a small percentage of disaffected normies who fall in line behind any movement that will give them food, housing and opportunity (once those things disappear in recession conditions).

Even when you look at how the societies of e.g The Soviet Union and the Third Reich formed, they were polar opposites in function. To say that Hitler and Stalin are two sides of the same coin is silly.
