Socialism of the more centralized variety does exactly that: allocate production and resources where they’re needed. Data analytics would make this much easier (look at Wal-Mart for an example of a huge centrally planned economy).

You could work as a sole proprietor, but under a system like that, if you worked with others you’d share the profits with them. If the surplus value your company earns became enough to let you live off that value without working yourself, then that would be capitalism.
