The case can be made but it does not hold. If you'll swallow your views and fall silent because the people who are your enemy to begin with might stop acting like they're not, you do not actually hold your views, but are a coward with no conviction or self-respect. I never really understood this about Americans: They claim that being likened to Hitler makes it impossible to defend themselves, when the only reason that society even "hates Hitler" is that he stands for the polar opposite of attacking you.
