Catholics claim that you are saved through good works. This is however wrong and let to practices where you basically could buy some "get out of hell" papers from the church back in the day, as "giving the church money" was the good deed.
We are created to be perfect, thus imperfection is sin (sin meaning "to miss your mark). So if perfection is then the state we should be in perfection cant undo previous sin. It's more like a true believer with be indwelled by the Holy Spirit (John 7:39), guiding us to conviction of sin and correct behavior, as well as reading the Scriptures and truly understanding them. But first we must believe and we receive the Spirit as the down payment on our salvation (Ephesians 1:13-14).
