Hey Jow Forums, can you redpill me on Jesus?
A bit of my backstory.
I am an Israeli Jew (by ethnicity) but was never really religious. I always had some kind of belief that God exists but never bought too much into modern Judaism, I do love the actual books of the bible and love to read them from time to time, there is something in these books that just speaks to me in a deeper level.
Growing up in Israel, you don't hear much if anything about the new testament as it is taboo. You never read the scripture of it, you never hear about Jesus aside for the very basic stuff (supposedly walked on water, turned water into wine, was a Jew himself, and that he was the start of the Christian religion).
Then I've taken some archeology courses as extra credits in Uni and began to see that the daily life and customs of historical Jews didn’t resemble at all the customs of modern Judaism. Then I've read about the Rabbinate and how they sort of stolen the faith and put themselves on top.
Lately I've been seeing some videos from a "Messianic Judaism" group here in Israel that believe in Christ as the Messiah. They speak against modern Rabbinical Judaism and point out a lot of the things I've been noticing.
I decided to start reading the new testament and finished the Gospel of Matthew. I did like the fact that Jesus goes against the corrupt religious establishment of his time which was in fact the beginning of Rabbinical Judaism, though I don't quite see a reason to believe the religious aspects of his character. Also, I still fail to see why his sacrifice was needed.
So yea, basically I want to know where to go next and what I need to know, I am asking you on Jow Forums because I actually trust that you would give me the unfiltered truth. Also, maybe point me to lectures of people speaking to absolute beginners when it comes to Christianity.
