I’m an American on vacation. The Philippines is crime-infested and full of poor people but people are MUCH happier here and MUCH more communal. I went to a party thrown for me last night and my mother in law’s family is so close. They hug each other and laugh a lot. It made me think of my family being so distant from one another.
