This. Fighting in China had been going on longer than any serious Allied involvement in Southeast-Asia and the East Indies. It continued to be a massive resource suck throughout the war to both sides, and almost no progress was made inland following the capture of Hong Kong. It wasn't until the Americans stopped sending money to the Chinese and started sending trained manpower that the Chinese front was anything less than a meat grinder.

France was demoralised with fighting after WWI was fought mainly on their soil and destroyed everything, that's why their ethos was primarily defensive (maginot line), which was a deluded shit idea but understandable. Britain was a bit poorer after WWI plus had a whole empire to try and look after, they couldn't just stick everything they had in the British Isles, they had to maintain fleets and garrisons in the far east. Russia had just been through the revolution 20 years earlier and Stalin had executed all the experienced generals to solidify his power. The US had no reason to enter the war until they were attacked and were more concerned about limiting their active fighting while profiteering off Britain by selling them arms (they were the smart ones in all this).

It wasn't really a case of them all ganging up on Germany, it was Germany KOing France and then getting locked in a stalemate with Britain. When they did all gang up on Germany they destroyed it.

How are those military losses correct? Some of the higher estimates for the Soviet military losses are 16 million, and in terms of total losses for the Soviets, some Russian historians put it as high as 41 million, I assume that’s just Russian propaganda, but this can’t be right.
