They're looking to crush anonymity through artificial selection of who even gets to post basically. If you can't post here then they figure you'll go to other social media where they can track you even easier.
Let's pose another possibility this system could be used for. What if Google could watch specific threads on Jow Forums, and flag certain threads for harder captchas, effectively anchoring them and sliding them to the bottom of the catalog without even having to bump other threads? I'm of course not saying Google is already doing that. I'm just pointing out, look at how they have this site by the balls. They could set up a system like that here if they wanted. I don't think anyone really knows exactly what it hits you with penalties and rewards for. What I put on the OP are just some general outlines of what will get you harder captchas. An idea I proposed last night in another thread we were talking about this in was they might lift the harder captchas from you if they value collecting data on you more than others, for whatever reason. They may be using posts from Jow Forums to train algorithms how to counter extremism and offensive speech, for instance.

Agreed. Add to it that if they happen to run any kind of low profile, high activity, astroturfing shill program, they can simply bypass their own captcha system, which is used across the web. Given that the "4channel" boards and any other boards without Id's are easy as fuck to subvert via samefagging the hell out of a controversial thread, I wouldn't be surprised if special actors are given a way to bypass the captcha (I genuinely doubt they're buying a pass).
