Polls

As you can see here, Trump's approval is underwater by 7.1%. While I question some of the polls, the basic trend you can see is that over time his approval is narrowing further and further towards the disapproval- at this time last year he was down by nearly 10%, which makes for a 3% improvement over a year. Based on this and continuing trends we would assume he'll reach about equal/slightly greater approval-disapproval around the time of the election (keeping in mind he does better in Likely voter polls than Registered voter polls, and right now most polls are Registered rather than likely).

Based on Obama's 2012 numbers, coupled with the fact that in 2020 there will be senate elections in red states like Texas but not in California (likewise, no gubernatorial election) Trump will likely swing somewhere above 51% of the popular vote UNLESS Democrats deliberately sink hundreds of millions into California merely for the sake of winning the popular vote. Now I hear about the "270 vote compact" thing, but frankly that will be dead in the courts.

Secondly you have to keep in mind the approval polls- you can separate them by Adults, Registered and Likely. Trump does best in the Likely voter polls but what is VERY noticeable is how well he does in the Adult polls- Gallup has him at 44% approval.

This is important because there are 160 million registered voters, 145 million Likely voters but 250-280 million adults. There are as many as 50 million non-citizens when counting legal immigrants, temporary residents and illegal aliens in the United States of America. In addition the number might possibly be impacted by Puerto Ricans choosing to influence our polls in polls which don't account for these people.

This means that Trump has the approval of up to 123.2 million adults in the USA or as few as 110 million adults.

Keeping in mind non-citizens hate him we can assume they're all citizens.

Keeping this in mind and keeping in mind most non-citizens disapprove of him (because he wants to remove them) it means that among the 70 million non-registered adults he has decent approval.

Overall he has about 45% approval in registered voter polls which is 72 million. So that means at max 50/70 non-registered adults approve of him. At min it means 38/70 non-registered adults approve of him.

This is a majority either way you cut it.

Now here's the real important part- there are about 110 million registered whites according to the Census Bureau's most recent data. There are about 160 million white adult citizens, give or take I believe. This is 50 million people.

Trump doesn't do so hot among non-whites so if we assume 50/70 approve of him we can assume maybe 6 million or about 30% of the non-whites not registered to vote approve of him. Seems reasonable. This means he's got about 44/50 of the whites- or a 90% approval.

Assuming he only has 38 million of 70 million approving, that's 32 million whites of 50 million or 64%, which is well above the 53% he has with registered whites or the 58% he has among likely whites.

Overall this is important because the states which were closest in 2016, or the majority- such as ME, NH, MN, CO- these are states with large numbers of non-voting whites. Likewise MI, PA, WI- which all voted for Trump by small margins- have large numbers of non-voting whites.

The bulk of voting whites, especially Republican ones, are in states they already win. Turnout tends to be lower among whites in a lot of places.

Trump's 2020 strategy is: register a lot of voters. A million in Texas. A few million in Florida. Millions across the board.

Trump has the numbers working in his favor on this, the Democrats don't. Democratic strategies all revolve around "turning out non-voters"- but non-voters (especially whites in heavily-white swing states) prefer Trump to the Democrats.

Demographically the Democrats are fucked hard.

Finally because you have to consider that most polls that show the Democrats winning are sampled according to either 2016 or 2018- years in which they won the popular vote. It assumes that big turnout in California translates to a Democratic landslide, which is naive if not downright retarded.
