If the Republicans really push the Misfud line of questioning, compare and contrast with what's in the report, and reference Papadopoulos' public account, this could become very interesting.

the batteries are not inside the turbine. but you need batteries to store and you need backup power to regulate the power output of the turbines. So you can use batteries for that or normal power plants(much cheaper). Both giving cancer. Batteries like what you said are really bad at giving energy compared to fuels(fuel is like 4 times better). They cost a shit load and have a short lifespans, need all kinds of special elements which in turn need shit load amounts of energy.

The only "battery" big enough to efficiently store energy on a country level are "pumped storage hydro power station" (Pumpspeicherkraftwerke in German).
Aka you pump water into a water reservoir with excess energy and then let it flow back down through water turbines to get energy back when you need it.
Problem is (ignoring you need electric generators for them too, same as with wind turbines) that you cannot built them just anywhere you want and they are massive for the energy requirements of a country.
They have an efficiency of around 75-80% though.
We got enough in Germany for around 40Gw currently while our grid load (usage) is around 500Tw per year. Which means they would need to be filled and emptied 12.500 times a year.
Of course you wouldnt need to completly drain them constantly but even then you can easily spot the problem if you´d wish to go completly renewable with current tech.
Atleast you´d need to store enough energy for a week maybe and have the capacity to not only run the country but also fill these stores up again in a few days.
Solar is quite daily but you got cloud coverage, winter, overheating solar panels in the summer etc.
Wind is pretty much unpredictable exactly.
But if we go with the 7 day storage example you´d need around 1.5Tw of energy stores which would mean that we´d need 375 times more artificial water lakes in Germany and we already built nearly every site we can...

Sorry we got enough for 7 Gw which are built to be for a daily energy output of 4-8hours which comes to 40Gwh. While our annual gridload is around 500 Twh.

Actually hydrogen fuel is bad. First off though, you can never get rid of powerlines (atleast in a way conceivable today) because you always have high-deman / low-supply areas esp with industry.
Also, especially with renewable energy you cant choose your location freely, esp.esp. with wind.

Why is hydrogen bad? Well you need to compress it and store it in pressurized tanks, look into hydrogen leakage too

As a sidenote it would be way better to go the fuel synthesis for hydrocarbon fuels since you already produced hydrogen. So just use a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, add carbonmonoxide and bam you got yourself "reneable" classic fuel.

Oh, AND you also used the bad carbondioxide from the atmosphere so this synthetic fuel is actually bioneutral in the same way as is burning a tree...

Yes, you´d need more energy to split carbondioxide into oxygen/carbonmonoxide, which only has an efficiency of around 20% but you get a vastly better fuel source out of this process.
Or you could just use an conventional natural fuel sourced powerplant to produce power AND carbonmonoxide. You´d get the needed heat as excess heat from the powerproduction and feed the synthesis gas you use to burn.
Would decreases the effeciency of your powerplant but you could produce the last part of the recipe and still be effective in doing so.
