It's tidally locked to the earth. This is actually very easily explained and makes sense once you think about it.

parallel rays are an approximation which are "good enough" for the Eratosthenes method since there are so many other areas of measurement error.
That is diffraction of light through the clouds. Even flat earthers don't think the sun is like 5 miles from the earth which is what you would get using that picture and assuming straight rays.

Actually if you were to take multiple simultaneous observations along the same line of longitude the lines would not converge for a flat earth model. They WOULD converge for a spherical earth model
