It's a situation similar in function to two people being in an elevator and someone farting. We know if they could wave her around in front of us like a right-wing warding coil they would, and they know we(skeptics) are aware of this reality as well. This is pretty obvious given how the whole dynamic around Trump getting the chance to appoint supreme court justices played out. The political and psychological forces at play wouldn't allow for such a grievous oversight on the part of the establishment, if they could indeed do such a thing(see? she's fine! stop asking questions!).
So instead we get this piecemeal pageantry that aims to quell the discord whilst maintaining the status quo for as long as possible, or at least until they can be sure that Trump won't be reelected. The left-leaning political sphere, their media apparatus and by extension those who don't toe their line are all caught in an extremely delicate balancing act. They know how serious of a threat this presents, especially given how this story would be presented in media circles they have no control over if it were to slip that she's been dead or incapable of doing her job for any extended period of time.
