His plan is to stick with it. The others in the race will drop like flies and he's hoping to absorb some of their followers. He also intends to speak more to the VAT (like the fact it won't be a tax on the poor because it will exclude items that most people use, like food, toiletries, other necessities of daily life) and to Medicare for All. You can see these answers on his recent Reddit AMA on the Yang subreddit (not sure the exact name).
I think he has a better shot now that he realizes the "debates" are just popularity contests, more akin to a TV show where each candidate speaks to the camera and not so much to each other. He also said this in the AMA. He needs to focus more on getting his message out and articulating himself better in public "debates".
