To be honest, I think it will force spiritual awakening more than anything.

I'm optimistic. Despite the damage caused by democracy, it's pretty clear to me that humans of today live more comfortable lives than ever before and I'm pretty sure this economic/technological progress will continue far into the future. Eventually, Homo Sapiens may lose its spot as the main driver of economic activity on Earth, but I don't think that's something to worry about. Even if our species as a whole becomes less important, individual humans will most certainly live better than we do.
