At the bottom are the powerless rabble- that's not your bourgeois suburban kids who always vote liberal- I'm talking about the underclass- the druggies, the desperately poor, the sick, and the exploited minority races. These people and their problems form the lowest level foundation of modern liberalism- healthcare, welfare, and illegal immigration.
Next step above these are the young dumb upper-middle class college kids. Some of these kids move up and some of them fall back down. The step above them is full-time employed and management- which seems like the top but it's not. You see- these managers have managers and when you find yourself in charge but not at the top- then your freedom is limited by those above you because you don't actually make most of the important decisions- those are made by someone else sometimes several someone elses.
Messaging is very important to a Left-Wing organization. Members of the group who deviate from the message will be silenced. Dissent is punished by expulsion. In Liberal-land there are rules but they are not followed or enforced evenly and breaking rules is acceptable in their society but only if you are useful to someone in power or you play proper games and say you're sorry. Cheating is permitted. Drug use is acceptable and encouraged and so are any deviant sexual acts that you can imagine. It's a society that is both very free and severely restricted.
The problem is that most of these people don't know who is in power at the highest level. If they were aware that it was their enemy then they would dissent and face exile. Thus- the power of those at the top is never questioned. Nothing changes.
If somehow things were to change- those at the top would rather break the structure than allow it to mend itself. And once broken- they will use all of the power they have left to make sure that it stays broken.
