Hello. I was raised Christian, and then left the faith about 5 years ago. I'm starting to think that perhaps My judgement of the religeon was unfair. After all I'm listening to a modern liberal reimagining of the church. It's possible that what I've been exposed to is a bastardization of real Christianity. So I'm considering the possiblity that I was wrong. One thing has always bothered me though.
If God is real, and scripture is his infallable word, why did he command circumcision of the Jews.
If they were made in his image, why did they need to mutilate themselves? How is mutilating a person to make them easier to control godly?
It really makes no sence. Forskins did not appear as a result of sin. They are a natural part of the male body. Why would god command that they be cut off? It seems more like some third world nigger ritual than something God wouldcommand of his children.

The issue of circumcision is biblical, however it is Old Testament(Judaic) law and not part of New Testament(Christian) thought; as are many conflicts Christians are faced with. Christianity is only true to the individual that believes in Jesus and his teachings, that is why it is a faith and not a religion. It becomes a religion when you start buying into the dogma. Put your faith in Jesus and no one else. Your personal relationship with God is just that, personal. Just because you disagree with an Old Testament law should not remove you from your relationship with God. Just follow what the New Testament(Jesus' words) have to say, judge for yourself, and act accordingly. Only God has the authority to judge you, not man.

The real reason is that it's a theistic explanation for a social program which is good for reasons that they couldn't understand at the time. Just as most of the foods Jews aren't allowed to eat were extremely hard to prepare correctly when the Bible was being written (and thus it is actually easier to just not eat them), circumcision reduces the rate of genital diseases from lack of hygiene. The foreskin traps smegma and makes an ideal ground for a disease to start, you see. If you just wash every once in a while, it's not a problem, but back then, when the only water came from wells or the sea, washing your whole body with clean water, dong included, was really expensive and time-consuming, and could not be done frequently.

Just because you can't connect all of the mysteries of the Christian religion and the Bible and make sense of everything, that doesn't mean that it's not true.
