Owen is not self-sufficient. He has let it slip before that he has numerous rental properties he collects money from. Hence me referring to his farming as larping. He doesn't actually survive off of his farm. But even if he was totally self-sufficient, he's just as fucked as anyone else. If the US collapses then hordes of people will spill into suburban, and then rural areas, scavenging and eating whatever they can get their hands on. One guy, one woman, and a handful of children will not be able to defend their property against thousands of people assaulting it. The only real "bug out" plan is to have a guaranteed way to leave the country by air travel, or a sufficiently concealed underground bunker. Every other idea for post-apocalypse survival in the US is a joke.
