Was Joseph McCarthy right and "McCarthyism" a big modern day sham by leftists? Most of the suspected communists brought before HUAC, the House of Unamerican Activities Committee, were revealed to be actual communists. While he was correct, McCarthy over reached and turned his guns to Ike's precious Army and George C. Marshall. McCarthy was extremely popular with the public, but not with the 5th column within the government. It was one thing to target Democrats, but McCarthy made the strategic error of targeting a Republican government too and in doing so, lost most of his allies.

Long read, but he was a brilliant man and paints a very good picture of the motley crew that was Communism above and below ground. He wrote a grave warning to America in the forward about what would happen if the forces marching through the institutions were not reckoned with in the open.
