As for the other aspect of your post, he actually had done some evolving, given the Infowars store getting huge into supplements and whatever.
The internet platform side of it is a major part of his error. He went from a small voice to a huge one, wedded himself to elections (making the right kind of enemies once his influence was large enough), and didn't foresee his need to start corralling people toward new sites and platforms that would protect his message more.
This is not shit from which he can't recover. He used to carve pumpkins on cable access TV. Taking a hit sees him still miles beyond his origin.
