Just a small, below grade safe room full of supplies is all you need. People who think they're gonna bug out or live forever in their bunker are fools. You should focus on being ready to provide for yourself and still have some excess, and making friends with your neighbors.

I live in the middle of a national park, got at least three months of gas for a family of four. as for water there is a well that's functionial and a nearby stream. If it came down to it I could store a few hundred litres of water and treat it for the long term. My larder is always stocked as as get snowed in around winter. With modifications I could store enough food to last a year, enough gas for 12months. Solar panels will do the leisure battery and I have a 100 litre drum for diesel. I could certainly get a few of them and treat it so it can last a few years. Got a small generator when power goes down but that's pretty rare now.

Myself, my wife, and our two sons would be pretty safe. Got a .308,.22, and a underover shotgun. Not much ammo tho. I need to prep a bit more, need to learn more about growing food as well.
