In Florida there is a Red Flag law called the Baker Act whereby a physician can claim someone is mentally ill and remove all their rights and force them into a health facility. The only people that can initiate a Baker Act is family of the individual and the police, but it requires final approval from a physician. For instance, an Aunt of a friend was suicidal and the family requested her to be Baker Acted. The doctor refused to do it until the third suicide attempt before relenting. This law seems to have become lax however. A friend who works as a nurse has had police drag in people to be Baker Acted and she personally signed off on their forms. The problem is always who determines what is mental illness, and with the flexibility of definitions in the current year it's only a matter of time until believing the 2nd Amendment is a right and illegal immigration is a problem will get you thrown into a mental asylum.
