How can the Chinese Commonwealth of Canada ever recover.

So? As long as it gets the job done and they benefit, why would they care about being branded a currency manipulator?

This is like when they made "protectionist" a taboo word, while America spent nearly 180 years being protectionist.

1982. Fuck off Beaner

OH NONONONONONNON

it means that China's currency has always been artificially over valued, especially if they can deflate it 15% at the drop of a hat.

It really means nothing but devaluing the entire Chinese economy 15% in their local currency, only retards really think it has an actual implication outside of US goods costing more in China... like they actually purchased much of anything outside of luxury goods from the US anyhow.

it can't

Attached: 1561453685788.png (563x806, 257K)

Is that some Jewish trick?

I thought they already did that.

You learn something new every day.

That really does nothing. China just cut off their nose to spite their face, as it effects their world wide trade valuation of the Yuan, not just vs the dollar.

How can a communist country be labeled a “manipulator”? Its the very basis of the economy

Because they peg their currency to the dollar in the first place. meaning they artificially keep the yuan at a value that supposedly helps their ability to export while deterring import. They just made it obvious that they are manipulating rather than keeping it steady. This decreases worldwide faith in their currency. Aka the only thing that really gives fiat a value in the first place.

>it means that China's currency has always been artificially over valued, especially if they can deflate it 15% at the drop of a hat.
No it's artificially undervalued, thus making Chinese goods artificially cheap. That they can drop it so easily is because the government has an iron grip on things, and they don't give a shit how the people are affected by it.

That's what the manipulation has always been, pegging the yuan at some fraction of a dollar rather than letting it float, which would have resulted in it being much more valuable, and consequently making China much less attractive for outsourcing.

Nobody gives a fuck if some country declares their currency more value than it otherwise would be.

...Proceed

dont let this thread die im learning about things that make my brain hurt and im okay after all

making it artificially cheaper or more expensive really means nothing for trade in the first place. Monetary policy having an effect on economic functions is so 70s dude. next thing you are going to tell me is monetary velocity increases economic prosperity.

If they want to buy raw resources... which they must to keep their economy going, doing this is shooting themselves in the foot.

I think there are trade implications to being labelled a currency manipulator, although I'm surprised China wasn't already labelled one since it's been open and obvious for years, if not decades.

How is this news? This has been going on for the last decade.

China is going to announce the Gold Yuan and BTFO ZOG forever.

And the U.S. dollar isn't?

I'm down for pillaging the bug women

Honestly, if they did that it would be great. It will never happen however, as they rely on other countries not calling them on pulling bullshit like this. Plus announcing a "Gold Yuan" and opening a "gold window" would skyrocket the valuation of the Yuan, which is the exact opposite of what they are doing right now.

I disagree. It's a prudent move if their domestic economy has excess capacity and/or inventories ready for export. Sure, they may operate at a loss until they build new markets with less developed countries and may piss off other export oriented economies, but it beats sitting idle.

They can't do it indefinitely and Trump will raise duties to 25%, but for now, it's the smart play.

Juan?

Trump was right the whole time.

>if their domestic economy has excess capacity and/or inventories ready for export.
this right here

So, China is going to lower the prices on shit I have zero to no interest in, and this is supposed to make me worried?

Let me know when Trump (or who the fuck ever)rescinds the bullshit restrictions on Chinese arms.
Til then? Fuck you and Fuck WalMart.

It is a short term play sure. China has been playing the long game for decades now and them making a move this drastic means they have nothing left in the tank.

Think of it this way, every single person in China who has Yuan, just got devalued by 15%. The only thing I can think of that may make this a good move is they think their local economy is self reliant enough. I highly doubt it is.

The USD is fiat, yes, however we don't just devalue it 15% at the drop of a hat, which is why it has trade value.

Their economy does, though.

Other, general, points,
>Strong Yuan don't need no dollar
>Muh gold Yuan
You don't do either of these in the middle of a trade war.

>All the export countries they'll piss off
All of these places are already, also in the middle of trade spats with the US and are, thus, unlikely to coordinate a multilateral response.

great thread fella

Yes I'm sure the U.S. would NEVER attempt to manipulate their currency to gain an "unfair advantage".

Attached: pepe eyeroll.jpg (618x597, 144K)

this is why im saying they are just going to hurt themselves with this. This is the kind of move you pull to keep your head above water as it effects your trade capacity world wide. And China relies on importing raw materials.

All china has to do is wait one more year and the orange idiot will be out of office then its back to business as usual.

Attached: chink commies2.jpg (750x750, 143K)

is it true that China can make us suffer any time they want...who is really winning this trade war

and if he isn't gone in a year?

lots of pain to come. They are making a huge gamble.

Xi is betting the avg Chinese can endure more suffering than the average American (at the cusp of an election year). I think Trump will tuck his dick, but not until he reminds the world that in the history of the world import substitution has never, once worked.

i dont think so...too bad during the debate these types of questions were not ask of the candidate

USA crying about other countries doing this is quite literally the pot calling the kettle black. Please let this escalate somehow and cause more wonderful happenings!

The US is hurting its self with the duties more than PRC is hurting its self with the devaluation. That's my point.

Yes I'm sure the U.S. would NEVER attempt to survey your phone and computer data, with a back door built at the hardware level.

Attached: intel.jpg (300x277, 18K)

The US can't devalue its currency, you fucking moron.

I have no idea how economy works and so none of this makes sense to me. Can someone explain it to me as if I were a 90iq retard (which I am)?

let's not hope it's that easy...

have you been watching the other world markets today...everyone tank at least 3%

read the thread its a great read

Cryptofag chink shills on suicide watch

What other country trades with China as much as the US? Nearly all of their industrial expansion is due to being able to export their products to the US. If they think that the aging population of Europe can be a long term export partner they are just screwing themselves.

Sure it is hurting the US in the short term, however there are plenty of other countries to export labor to, and that trend has already begun in Vietnam and Malaysia. Heck even Mexico has lower labor costs than China right now.

It will be and is short term pain for the US, that is for sure, however the capacity to export labor elsewhere exists, along with the capacity to actually rebuild industrial capacity in the US.

I disagree that the US is hurting itself more than China is with this, as it is hurting China long term, but the US short term.

>Think of it this way, every single person in China who has Yuan, just got devalued by 15%.

Not the ones that moved it to Bitcoin. Pic related.

I believe declaring something like this implements automatically a certain further process. I don't know the details tho.

Can someone please tell me something is finally going to happen that will be as good as WW2

1. Import substitution = retard economics
2. In trade wars no one wins unless it ends quickly due to one side massing overwhelming force
3. Trump has started a trade war, is relying on import substitution, and has pissed off everyone that he needs to cooperate with him.
4. Doing this in the middle of a polarizing election makes it even more stupid.

Civil War = Confederate Money
World War II = Nazi Money
Trump/Putin = BitCoin

When BitCoin goes tits up, they’ll be rolling in the long green.

no?

Attached: purchasing-power-us-dollar.png (984x601, 350K)

Trump actually ran on it 2016. He wanted to declare them as manipulator the first 100 days. I guess he 'half' kept this promise.

Their wealthy have been shuffling their money abroad in many forms for almost 10 years now. There is a reason why so many Chinese students come to the US, It is a method of funneling money abroad and converting it because the monetary policy in China is not stable.

Attached: chink commies4.jpg (750x697, 141K)

It means chink women will soon again be offering sucky sucky 5 dollar white footlongs.

Who gives a shit really.Romney supported that as well. Who cares. This country isn't even worth defending anymore. This is just entertainment.

Post the link, you God damn summerfag.

Explain.

2. is bullshit and this trade war will prove me right. It is just what the liberal media is repeating over and over again. The buyer has always the overhand vs the seller but he need to push it until the end what G.W. Bush didn't do because he is a faggot.

Import substitution is only retard economics when you are talking about a country that is unable to supply its raw materials and labor.

The US is neither of these.

Did somebody sell out the US to China ?
Too many coincidences, it looks to me like somebody is panicking, don't know who but i have my suspicions and probably the same people pushing certain video to damage a mongolian basket weaving forum.
Something is not quite as it should be, the lies and dishonesty ive witnessed the last day or so have reached new levels, they will use anything if it means they can gain, anything.

Ok I read the thread. I actually know even less about economics than I thought I did. Let's just leave it here and pretend I understood everything you guys said.

Mfw the circus would go from town to town and give these freeks a job.

> BTC is going to fail
> Cites Confederate & Nazi money
> BTC up almost 2,000% in last 3 years

Not understanding your rationale user

MIT has a trade dynamic profile of every country. PRC and US both "get around"; in other words, we have plenty of options for trade.

The question of domestic reviving in a trade war is Iraq invasion-tier retarded. It doesn't work. Go back to econ 102 and Ricardo.

The only leverage the US has over PRC (until a Democrat can win over our allies again) is denying 3rd countries access to our market with spuriously justified sanctions.

Retard detected.

Your shitty economic theories don't count externalized costs from trade like the tens of millions of destitute opiod addicts created in hollowed out towns where every single industry has been shut down and shipped overseas.

NEOLIBERALS MUST HANG. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I'm not going to argue semantics. The dollar after it left the gold and silver standard is not the dollar that it was.

China is intentionally impoverishing its own people in order to keep its exports competitive so that all of its jobs don't go to Mexico.

The US is fine either way since this effectively means that China is subsidizing prices to make its products cheaper for the US in order to offset the tariffs, but the stock market panics because the stock market always panics. But the stock market was in a bubble anyway so some deflation is arguably a good thing.

hold on to bitcoins for as long as you can user just dont get caught holding the bag in the end...history has a way of repeating itself

>This trade war will prove me right
This trade war is unilateral so your assertion is as untestable as your assertion is unsound

citing Ricardo? REALLY?
Are you really a neo-ricardian? Jesus dude, dependency theory is garbage and only applies when a country can't possibly be self reliant.

Wrong.

okay this

I'm not Chinese and I'll prove it,

Ok this was way easier to understand. So china is doing communism to stay afloat because of US sanctions. And in the end only china will be hurt by this? Why would superior IQ chinks do this? Is communism really that evil?

How will your trade war, especially, but also "wall" stop black market synthetic drugs coming in from PRC via Mexico. What incentive does PRC have to honor the pledge it made to Trump before this provocation?

I meant the canadian you were replying too

He isn't Chinese, just a damn global socialist.

Quit LARPing as an economist, Mr. Navarro.
