Because every sale matters. As a developer, you're likely an indie developer. You already know that, for the most part, you've got the Caucasian market in the bag unless the game completely depends upon being ethnic. Now you want those other ethnic groups to buy your game, too.

Interracial couples is an extremely cheap and easy way to get you in-roads for more sales. "See? There's an Asian male in the game. Buy my game!" "See? There's a Native American female in my game, buy my game."

Minorities are very sensitive to whether or not they are represented in any particular media and are more receptive than not when one of them is in a game.

If I can increase my sales by adding a South American female instead of a Caucasian female... Fuck it. Done. If I can get away with adding an (Asian) Indian male instead of a Caucasian male... Fuck it. Done.

Unless I have a game that completely needs a certain ethnicity, I don't give a shit if a gamer thinks that the hero is Caucasian, Hispanic, light-skinned African, etc. I can easily put in a palette swap and...
