In West Germany, between 1955 and I’d say 1998 or so.
It’s a funny thing, Americans actually pay a lot of taxes. If you leave out the bottom 20% and the top 5%, most Americans pay 30-40% of their income in taxes all in (federal, state, local, sales taxes, property taxes etc.). In Europe it’s 30% (Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia etc.) to 60% (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) depending on the country.
Of course, if you purchase healthcare, insurance and education privately, overall you are also at 50-60% on average.
I think Americans want this “sense of freedom” and this hope to be super rich, even if only a few thousand can be super rich.

Everyone getting everything implies somebody has to provide it. The problem is the current population isn't providing enough wealth. A lot of the wealth is stuck in military spending and corrupt medical plans. Now is the solution to give more money to the state (create more space for corruption) or is to decrease the state and keep money in the hands of the people?
I do not think that being robbed to subsidize scumbags is going to make my life "nice". To make my life nicer, we need to eliminate taxes and the shitskins those taxes support.
