In answer to the books question: What whites consider a conversation about race to be about and blacks consider are two very different things. Most Whites (the few who actually do manage to get into one) generally go into it with good faith, wanting ro discuss the problems they experience and some of the issues they see with other races from the outside while trying to arrive at a mutal understanding. Blacks go into it like a debate, and if you don't agree with everything they say and just roll over and accept their ridiculous positions and demands you're a racist and blind to your own privilege.

To be fair, there's something to be said for acknowledging that objective reality isn't a thing in that reality requires an interpretive framework to be understood. The real question we ought to ask ourselves is why we should be committed to a Progressive Liberal framework where "racism" is a legitimate concept as opposed to rejecting it (and "antiracism") as liberal concepts.
