Most of these lines are connected to a device called transformer which is used to transform medium voltage to low voltage, and to supply more households.
Damage anything of these, and the power is out from 2 days to over 2 weeks (depends on damage)

electrician here. i worked maintenence in one of the large buildings downtown. one if the transformers in the basement exploded and knocked out power in the building for a few days. the idea is someone left a wrench in the transformer. they vibrate slightly and could take years for a tool to migrate where it can fall into the bus bars and short it out. luckily the two security guards were not at their desk next door. they would have been vapourized.
