5G is just a standard user. It can be deployed on a wide range of frequencies, from the same low band spectrum used for previous/existing 2G/3G/4G networks, to mmWave, which is in the tens of GHz range and conventionally hasn't been used for point-to-multipoint terrestrial mobile broadband (although has been used for point-to-point links, weather radar, and a multitude of other applications)

Except the mmWave typically hyped in conjunction w/5G penetrates far less than the microwave frequencies used in conventional wireless networks. It's more like UV where it can't even penetrate past the dermis and into your body, but it also lacks the energy to alter DNA and damage tissues like UV.

On one hand it is a microwave, it is non ionizing radiation. When have you heard of someone getting cancer because they reheated a burrito on a microwave?
On the other hand non ionizing radiation still can cause cancer, for example UV A radiation (reason why you should use sun blocker and not go to tanning salons very often).
There is no actual consensus.
