I know you have never seen it, but much of Canada is frequently covered with a thing called "ice" which tends to cover roads in winter and fuck them up every spring thaw.

There has never been any proof that speed limit lower the rate of accidents. The stats that the various states show do not take into account the security features that were integrated into cars at the same time speed limits were enacted : abs, esp, airbags, structure that absorbs impacts... those are responsible for lowering the number of deads on the roads, not speed limits

Because people going under the speed limit cause wrecks interacting with those going at/over the limit. When those faggots slowly coast into the other lane, especially with no signal, going 50 in a 65 while paying zero attention to those coming behind them, ends up in fucked up wrecks

To be honest, we have plenty speed limits, especially near cities. There are the few autobahns which are kinda interstate highways with only few exits, those have high or no speed limits, yeah. But the average German won't experience those too much, unless he's commuting a lot.

Speed limits are 100% optional in USA. Was doing 70 on the highway got my doors blown off by a group of 4 cars. Decides to catch up to them but backed off once I got to 100 and wasn't gaining

On my daily commute, half of the way there is no speed limit. Also there is federal routes without speed limits, not only Autobahn

In BC the real speed limit on a highway is 10 over what it says and speed limits are under enforced on highways and used more as an excuse to check suspicious looking vehicles unless you’re driving dangerously

Also laugh at stupid Albertan drivers who can’t take a corner at any speed faster than 80 because they’re the worlds second worst drivers

Speed limits are only good in residential areas, during winter or areas where people walk. Speed limits on highways are typically set lower than what the road can be safely driven at for collecting revenue

180 to 220 is the ideal speed

I dunno, it sounds like a good idea on paper, but in winter a lot of people already tend to drive slow and stupid because they're afraid of snow (I live in Minnesota, I see many people from out of state driving ~20 on highways in the snow because they are fearful idiots). Having a lower speed limit in the winter sounds like it would just cause people to drive even MORE fearfully because most drivers are just not very smart. Even if you have the current speed limit be the winter one and make the summer speed limit higher, the fact that the winter speed limit is slower will just do more to scare people who are not used to snow.
I guess it would work if people weren't morons but unfortunately we don't live in that world.

Varies very much by state. There’s some states that have shittier than shit infrastructure maintenance to where it may actually be a good idea to follow the limit just so you don’t end up dead from shitty roads

85s are those weird toll roads around Austin and DFW, interstates in the rural parts are 75 (90 in practice, state troopers are fucking jackasses that’ll nail you for going 76 on a 300 mile trip just because their entire job is ticket jockeys in buttfuck), 65/60 in terms of highways/beltways/tollways within major metro areas

Can only vouch for the south, you can drive like a maniac in Texas, slow way the fuck down in Louisiana, due to shitty roads and cops, and Mississippi mostly due to police. Georgia is a good place to have someone run you off the road because fuck you
