I've noticed whites tend to squint a lot when outside in bright or even normal conditions, and often wear sunglasses all the time just to see normally. How did they manage in the past? Was Europe especially overcast by contrast to the other regions of the world? Was there some technique or method to prevent this sun blindness, maybe growing longer hair or wearing hats all the time?
just seems strange to me, what is the evolutionary adaptation that selected for such poor vision in normal outdoor conditions?
France, Germany UK, Norse, and eastern Europe have no sun. And neither does northern North america where the settlements were formed to be honest. Places like Italy spain and Australia have no excuse to be honest, I'd imagine generational life in those countries would simulate some sort of evolutionary growth. Unless It takes longer than that, I dunno I'm not a scientist.

That's easy to answer. They aren't looking up at the sky they are looking forward. Concrete, bright colours, reflective surfaces, glass, mirrors, bright clothing has made things brighter. 200 years ago most of us would be working in a field or forestry. The plants around are designed to absorb sunlight not reflect.

Holy fucking shit. How did this OP know? I literally wear my sunglasses from sunrises to sundown. In fact, I wear my sunglasses right when you have to turn on the headlights at dusk. I also wear them on on rainy days. Also, florescent light bulbs hurt my eyes indoor. lol.
