Base jumping is usually done off high towers and platforms...not much more than a few hundred feat up. Didnt watch the video or see what happened, but if he was actually base jumping he should have had his chute already deployed and in his hand. If not, that may have killed him, or he was holding the chute wrong.

It's not impossible, base jumpers have gone as low as 100ft, but they know what the fuck they're doing, understand that it's incredibly fucking stupid, and pack their chutes specifically in ways to open in time, and use specialized chutes.
