Is duckduckgo the best alternative to google, or are is there something else I should use?

DDG gets most of its links from Bing. The advantage is everyone gets the same results. If you want to get Google results, but also 'anonymised' then you can use Startpage, a Dutch firm. They get most of their links from Google. You can also search DDG with a g! in front of your search term. That will pass your query from DDG to Google and back to you without Google applying their modifications based on your IP or login data. There is not much else you can use I'm afraid. Yandex is ok, but limited results.

When I use google to look for protected content like movies, games, and manga, I don't get working sites until the five page in. The first few pages are websites that sell the content or just advertise it.

DuckDuckGo is powered by Bing. They also forward your identity and search details to their affiliates, which includes Microsoft, Amazon, and even Google themselves. The creator made it big on his first project before DDG which collected users' address books. He then sold all of these contact details to a third party and made millions.

One alternative is Fireball (fireball com), an anonymous German search engine that is fast and gives relevant results in a clean interface.

Another, if you're more technically inclined, is YaCy (yacy net), a peer-to-peer, fully-decentralized search engine that also gives incredibly accurate results. It's much harder to track and profile users performing searches on P2P projects like this. The one downside is that you need a client running in order for it to work.

DDG might be (((leftist))), but most tech companies are. The killer feature for me with DDG is that you can change the results based on country. You cannot do that with either Startpage or Qwant. Privacy is probably bullshit, but it is virtually impossible to be private online anyway. Fingerprinting your browser is piss easy and will identify you 99% unless you don't browse full screen, switch javascript and flash off, do not install any languages and hide behind multiple VPNs. The main advantage is that I need to see results that are not 'tailored' to my previous searches or my location or language.

Saw a recommendation from a poster who was woke. I've used it for a few days - it works well enough. Open to more information if anyone knows better than me.

Ultimately, the leftist capture of silicon valley means that search results from converged companies will reflect the leftist view, rather than reality. I'm under no illusions about privacy on the internet. I just want a search engine that doesn't try to feed me propaganda.

I've been using it. Only issue I have with it is that sometimes I lose a page when using the back button. Also, the constant refreshing of a page when you go back and forth makes entering long texts with multiple links you have to copy and paste almost impossible.

Incognito mode and VPN and CCleaner applies to every search engine you use. That's what I meant to say. They all have their idiosyncrasies. A really thorough search may need three different engines.

Depends what you want to find. Google has less than 1% of sites a Russian or Chinese search engine will find and i wouldn't use Google to find any kind of media, since it finds less than 1% of available media.

Does it matter? If you search "american coupe" in qwant or DDG, you get the same results. Literally a bunch of black couples and maybe one indian/white couple.
