The biggest factor in the economic downturn isn't Brexit itself, it's the uncertainty that's abounded over the past 3 years as the government shuffled its papers and tried to look busy while doing literally nothing. If a no deal Brexit had happened immediately after Article 50 there would have been a short period of major economic turmoil and then it would have sorted itself out, dragging this whole ordeal out and leaving businesses in a position where they have no idea whatsoever what kind of outcome they should be preparing for is what's done the damage.

The real lesson here is that "globalism" is an extremely fragile system heavily dependent on price controls and subsidies that slowly drain the coffers of the middle class to enrich multinational megacorporations, sold on the idea that giving scraps to the third world will raise them up. The truth is, of course, that during globalism the third world's poverty has decreased dramatically, but this isn't because of globalist policies. It's because of the flooding of the first world with disposable "generational" electronics that go through a cascade of reselling and refurbishing down through the world's economies until it finally reaches darkest Africa. Also, massive charity to build infrastructure and provide healthcare, which has further impoverished the first world.
