It's normal and healthy for children to bully and ostracize other children who are performing poorly. It encourages the bullied child to develop their natural talents instead of dragging down the group in an activity they are naturally bad at. A kid who is poorly coordinated should not engage in most forms of team-based competitive sports, for example. The child instead can form or join a group at an activity they are good at where they can develop positive self-esteem and useful skills with children who also value these activities. This benefits the children and society as a whole.

It is abnormal and unhealthy for adults to engage in the same behavior. A poorly coordinated, unfit adult does not go to the gym to someday become a professional basketball star, but because they want to be healthy. It is extremely poor form to mock and exclude them, because that will encourage them to be unhealthy drains on society. In my experience, gym rats are friendly, helpful, and encouraging to such people. This is normal adult behavior. Likewise with groups like Toastmasters or the Elks.

Teachers who tell children to stop doing math are also abnormal and bad for society. Children don't understand what skills are useful and necessary for everyone. That's why I used the school sports and adult gym analogies. Regardless of kids pushing unathletic kids out of competitive teams to intramural just for fun games, the gym teacher's job is to teach every student the basics of physical fitness and compel the kids to do it regardless of how bad they are. That's a useful lesson kids only get from adults, some things you have to do even if they are painful, emotionally or physically.
