Even if you accept the narrative of the Holocaust, which I am inclined to do, Nazi Germany wasn’t really a traditional “totalitarian” state. No Germans were being FORCED to do anything at gunpoint. German soldiers weren’t FORCED to execute prisoners. If they didn’t want to kill someone, they just had to say so and someone else would do it instead. Nazi soldiers weren’t marching through the streets looking for lawbreakers to execute on a whim. Things only went to shit once the Allies attacked
