Elaborate. If perhaps you're referring to pushing automation such that it could force a program like UBI, well I don't think he commands enough political power to do it.

Most Mexicans etc, immigrants, etc, are not going to just come over and not work. UBI does not give you much more than enough to eat and pay your rent. You can't afford any toys, and most people feel guilty and don't want to be NEETs for life either.

Let's say he implements UBI in 2021. Suddenly illegals will be surrounded with people $1k/month richer than them. There's a good chance they either out themselves being good guys for 18 years or they fuck off without being able to compete. If other countries follow with UBI, illegals would be more inclined to go back to their countries instead of waiting for 18 years. There will always be leeches, but this would weed them out even faster.

This is a great point, I can't see how a system could be remotely stable to provide its citizens welfare of any sort if there was a population shock. If he were some how elected, I can't see the situation being any better or worse than what it already is. However, at least we'd have a grand a month for a while before we went out.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to consider it more holistically, that those who are citizens would start at $1000 and those illegals would start at $0 *or* that citizens would start at the "new" zero and illegals would be at -$1000 in their opportunity cost to being here? I've brought it up more so because some could start throwing comparisons around without a basis and we get stuck in dialogue that becomes fruitless.
