By being in the military at the start, you get free training plus a gun. And if the government side starts losing, you can easily switch sides as become a propaganda hero for the insurgency.

The military is actually in pretty good hands, as far as officers go, though I can only speak for the infantry. Of all the infantry officers I know, there are probably less than 5 who would be in anything short of full blown rebellion if that kind of order was issued.

POG's are 70/30 on the mix (fuck higher/fuck me harder higher) but in the Corps at least will defer to the grunts when it comes to decisions like that.
I've met about 3 POG officers in our top heavy unit that wouldn't outright join the grunts and go full coup against an overt ZOG, and even they'd see the writing on the wall and just go with things.
A lot of the enlisted personnel would just take care of themselves (about 40%), about another 40 would be anti-overt ZOG takeover, and the last 20 would be in a mix of denial and "I want to just kill civilians to rack up a body count" below the E-6 line. Staff and up would probably be about 80/20 mix of "fuck the government I'm the executive now" and "no daddy please let's just kill civilians things will all work out."

You have no idea how incredibly dependent are military jets, helicopters and nearly all of the hardware the military owns to civilian repair and logistics. Those things would quickly become grounded and cannibalize parts from others to keep a few flying.

I was in the military and any of us will tell you that 90% of the ghetto shitskins that get into the military are laughably inept at any form of combat. They mostly stay out of any combat arms and can't even handle jobs like mechanic or technician. They gravitate to make work jobs in admin and supply. All of the special forces units have a swimming requirement and that filters out most nogs. The shitskin portion of the army is just a logistical burden that can't pay for itself in any meaningful way when combat starts.
