WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Monday announced that it would change the way the Endangered Species Act is applied, significantly weakening the nation’s bedrock conservation law and making it harder to protect wildlife from the multiple threats posed by climate change.

The new rules would make it easier to remove a species from the endangered list and weaken protections for threatened species, the classification one step below endangered. And, for the first time, regulators would be allowed to conduct economic assessments — for instance, estimating lost revenue from a prohibition on logging in a critical habitat — when deciding whether a species warrants protection.

Critically, the changes would also make it more difficult for regulators to factor in the effects of climate change on wildlife when making those decisions because those threats tend to be decades away, not immediate.

Over all, the revised rules appear very likely to clear the way for new mining, oil and gas drilling, and development in areas where protected species live.

It was a rodent, and it reproduced like a rodent, there were and still are millions of these rodents all over the Mojave desert . No, it wasn't on the endangered species list because it was actually endangered, it was on their so BLM and the Sierra Club could block assorted land from being developed, land that assorted value, such as mineral deposits, like gold .Since these lands could not be developed, the BLM and Sierra Club were able to buy this land for pennies on the dollar from their owners.
Dianne Feinstein,a founding member of the Sierra Club, just so happens to be married to the finance banker Richard C. Blum who specializes in financing Gold mining operations at the time. So, all this land the BLM and Sierra Club bought up on a discount ,started being least out to various gold strip mining operations.

Bald eagles were mostly fucked up by DDT and other pesticides. The problem was never loss of habitat. Bald eagles are just fancy looking gulls, they scavenge dead fish. DDT from agricultural runoff was contaminating fish, and while the gulls could handle the toxins, the eagles and brown pelicans were absolutely fucked over by it. The problem was shell thinning that affected some birds over others. Brittle eggs didnt survive and populations plummet.

This was never about forestry or oil habitat, and thanks to ban on DDT bald eagle populations bounced back and they were desisted from the endangered species act over a decade ago. Responsible logging and expecially exploration oil will not wipe them out, because it didn't in the first place. Stop poisoning water, and fish eating birds will stop dying, it was that simple.

Again, bald eagles have no "critical habitat", they can live more or less anywhere gulls can live. In western Canada you see the fuckers in McDonalds parking lot fighting over fries (untill the pigeons gang up and chase them off), but they prefer areas where dead fish are dumped.

This guy btfo I'm an ecologist and you have to play both sides. You can't thwart security over a protected animal, period. Also, we've fucked up the land so hard. Unless we are in a better position, financially and security wise, we will have both issues—species dying and our country lessened. This is particularly true for species along the southern border. The best way to remediate all this shit is to not funnel money into the EPA, but to funnel money into smart land managers of protected areas and those willing to revitalize areas overwhelmed with invasives that once used to be home to these endangered species. I'm doing this for the government, particularly with native pollinators.

Actually the egg-thinning thing was discredited long ago through lab experiments. It was just a hysterical power grab by environmentalists that used birds as the face of the campaign. DDT is bad for other reasons completely unrelated to birds however.

Steve Milloy is a lobbyist who has been trying to prove DDT is safe for years. he no longer claims you can drink it straight up after his bluff was called, but he still denies the shell thing. DDT is only one of many chemicals that can cause the phenomenon, but it was the most widely used during the peak decline.

Half of the stuff you linked confirmed the egg shell thinning, and the other half said "no evidence adult birds died of DDT", which was never claimed.

More recent studies in 2006 and again 2011 absolutely confirmed that DDT and other pesticides absolutely cause the thinning. Literally the only ones disputing this work for chemical companies, mostly former tobacco and asbestos lobbyists.
