Ive got a question pol. Why did Hitler declare war on the America?
Allied propaganda that I have read says that he did it in hopes that japan declare war against the USSR. If Hitler was truly only fighting defensively, then why tho?
I read a transcript of Hitlers speech to the Reichstag to get the other side of the story and these are the reasons in which he mentioned.
> Prevented the escape of Arauca
> Arauca, La PlataandMangoni naval movements were given to the allies against international law
>Reugeu NiederwaldandRheinto be shadowed by American ships until these steamers were compelled to scuttle themselves so as not to be captured
> Two German officers who had escaped from Canadian captivity, were-again contrary to all the dictates of international law-handcuffed and handed over to the Canadian authorities.
> Roosevelt sent Colonel Donavan to the Balkans, to Sofia and Belgrade, to engineer a rising against Germany and Italy.
>On Roosevelt's orders, a U.S. warship had attacked a German U-boat with depth charges near Greenland.
>Navy Minister, Knox, suddenly announced an American order to shoot at Axis warships. On 4th September, the U.S. destroyerGreerobeying orders, operated against German U-boats in the Atlantic. Five days later, a German U-boat noticed the U.S. destroyer acting as escort in a British convoy. Roosevelt finally made a speech in which he confirmed and repeated his order to fire on all Axis ships.
>U.S. escort-vessels attacked a German U-boat with depth charges east of Greenland.
>The U.S. destroyerKearneyacting as an escort vessel for Britain, again attacked German U-boat with depth-charges.
>Finally, on 6th November U.S. forces illegally seized the German steamer,Odenwald, and took it to an American port where the crew were taken prisoner.
Still, why not let America declare first so that war support is not as strong, and so Hitler can take the moral high ground as a defender?
