Switzerland was neutral and is a fortress, invading it would give virtually no benefits and would be enormously costly (they literally had/have dynamite rigged across half the country, and their national defense strategy involves digging into the Alps and fighting a guerilla war).
As long as the Swiss were willing to work with both sides, not invading them was the correct move, although both sides drew up plans to do so, just in case.
