Iowa here, lots of corn...its all GMO, they have breed out the nutrition of it just for yield, the subsidies for the most part go to the huge mega farms...it was so cheap years ago they were selling corn burning stoves to heat your home. Subsidies need to stop so people start growing other crops...one bad disease and this country is in trouble.
This is a low-effort thread, but this is correct.
It allows oil companies to sell less petrochemical product with every gallon of gasoline (cut your product with a gov. subsidized one) which is why your "gas" is likely to be %10 ethanol made from coen. It also has a lower energy content per volume than gasoline so you have to buy more gas more quickly.
Also there's the ever increasing demand for corn syrup food products. Check your kitchen and see what packaged food DOESN'T have corn syrup in it.

Its subsidized for a variety of reasons most of which are not good ones.
Not the kind of corn you eat on the cob though. Field corn is an industrial crop that is not consumed fresh. Its processed into corn sugar and put in everything, processed into fuel (ethanol or biodiesel) and used as animal feed for pretty much all types of farm animals.
Despite corn syrup Sperging if is this lady use (feed) that consumes most corn and is most responsible for how heavily subsidized it is.

Big company that holds a bunch of patents for super productive and virile corn strains. These are super efficient means of food production (good) but Monsanto defends their IP rigorously which engenders a lot of ill will. Especially since their IP is a genome of a plant that grows in the ground and people dont like getting sued for planting a seed.
There is also the GMO crowd who have other issues with Monsanto but I will let them handle that one as I dont know a ton about their greivences since I'm not a faggot.

Corn in the US is fucked beyond belief. 95+% is genetically modified and covered with glyphosate (RoundUp). At this point US corn is more of a poison than a food.
And it's in *everything* - every possible kind of food, cosmetics, toothpaste, even medicine.
After many years of pain we've discovered my wife is allergic to GM corn. Before we did she'd spent years going to allergists, none of whom had any idea of the cause of her random swelling and excruciating pain. "It's ideopathic! Nothing to be done!" they all said.
But once we cut out GM corn from her diet her painful symptoms disappeared and she was fine again. Note it was only *genetically modified* corn that was the problem. She can eat *organic* corn all day long with no problem at all. It's the GM corn that poisons her.
Interestingly (to me, anyway), the toxicity from GM corn passes through not just cooking but animal products as well. Cheese from a cow that's been fed GM corn? Swelling and pain. Cheese from a country where GM corn is outlawed? Everything's fine. Eggs from chickens fed GM corn meal? Reaction. Organic eggs? No problem at all.
Sharing this in the hope our discovery might help others, and because I believe the effects of GM products and the herbicides with which they're grown and harvested are utterly devastating America'd gastro-intestinal microbiome - destroying our inner environment as they are our outer.

That's a pretty staggering level of misunderstanding. Weird to think of a person like you living all your life as a version of placebo effect (being wrong, then drawing mistaken conclusions from your perceptual and cognitive errors).
