Here's the quick rundown: >US airforce uses VLF (very low frequency) to communicate with it's strategic forces around the globe >due to the very nature of radio, we can listen in using the site in the OP or other Software Defined Radios >because everyone could theoretically listen in, the messages are encoded using an One Time Pad (completely unbreakable) >these messages (called Emergency Action Messages or EAMs) are orders to nuclear-capable forces all over the world Basically, we're listening because more frequent EAMs could indicate a sharp rise in tensions (the frequency went wild during the occupation of Crimea, for example). This way, we can get wind of happenings before everyone else outside of the military does, SKYKING messages are extra special, because they are thought to be Go/No go orders for nuclear assets. The more often you hear a skyking message repeat, the more serious the situation is.
Logan Wilson
thanks for this. been in these threads before but never went down the rabbit hole
Lucas Hill
>you will never be in a late night kangz thread laughing about "did this dude just say Gundam Drop on the radio the chair force is weebs" and see later that day that they dropped the MOAB on a cave
Oh, and Nightwatch is a Boeing E-4, the current "doomsday plane". It's purpose is to provide a command center for the US army even after the pentagon gets glassed.
>US airforce uses VLF (very low frequency) to communicate with it's strategic forces around the globe Incorrect. HFGCS is in the HF band.
Christopher Cook
Hold up. I thought 1-30 kHz is VLF.
Luis Baker
Nevermind I'm retarded,
Eli Kelly
160 Meters (1.8 kHz) through 10 Meters (28 kHz) is HF

whahahaha you throw away hours of your life just for that... have sex.
Brandon Parker
Wow, this autism is still going on. I'm glad it is.

Why are 80s and 90s American cars such a big deal with Moscovites?
Jordan Young
>background noise >extra open tab to think i could of been spending my time trying to cure cancer or save the white race instead of studying for ham technician exam for a vanity license plate
I always loved the 900 except for the signal processor.
t. IC-7851
Alexander Fisher
it looks pretty good, you should sprinkle a few drops of whitewine on the cheese, just to give it that fondue / croque monsieur flavor
Kayden Hughes
>22 K35R in the air you have way too much money to spend, americans.
William Jenkins
>IC-7851 I am europoor. Also I like old stuff, because all options and settings are available with switches, no need to go in menus.
What antennas do you have ?
John Richardson
Gotta make up for weak allies.
Gavin Young
Israƫl is not weak !
Michael Foster
>What antennas do you have ? More of an antenna garden than a farm. Homebrewed G5RV for 80/40/20/10, Magloop for 160, longwire with Unun for 60,30,17,15 and just an off the shelf Comet for 2/440.
Thomas Howard
VLF is onlY used to communicate with submarines. Very low bandwidth and high power consumption of the transmitter.
Ayden Wright
What happened to warrant a skyking thread? Did I miss something?
Oliver Nguyen
nice ! I run a long wire with a 9:1 unun, planned for a vertical for local QSO on 40m
Camden Jones
A G5RV has amazing NVIS properties at Grayline.
Gavin Jones
Interesting, but I'll have a hard time setting up a tower. Maybe a wire running in the trees around the property. I go to the local club for DX anyway
Anthony Sanchez
You guys don't use 2 meter/70cm for local QSO?
Bentley Murphy
I think it's just back for Nostalgia and/or DPRK.
Brody Walker
quiet man will sleep alone tonight, sad. No, old guys are all on 80m with 1 KW to get on top of the italians with 10 KW and germans with 100 KW. Then russians come with 2 GW. This is a fucking mess.
Adrian Rogers
I wish i could listen to Guard Freq, where all the pilots shitpost on a comfy freq.
Anthony Morris
desu I don't remember this quiet man waiting for traffic. Maybe there is an exercise going on ?
Parker Wright
That's what I think. "Waiting for traffic" seems to occur more often when multiple sentry planes are in the air, probably training for some scenario or another.
Isaiah Taylor
>160 Meters (1.8 kHz) through 10 Meters (28 kHz) is HF
that should be Mhz (megahertz) not Khz (kilohertz)
the military uses the VLF band specially for submarine communications
the VLF band can be easily tunned using almost any soundcard like this:
I've been looking for one of these threads for like a week. I have been listening for about that long too. Is Nightwatch the callsign that's on, or is that something else? Earlier was Quietman... or something like it. That guy is new and nervous about transmitting. Yesterday, he had a long message and had to keep aborting and resending due to errors. I also saw a digital message earlier that started out transmitting fast, but kept repeating slower and slower. It was kinda interesting. Anyone know what that is? Just now it sounded like a russian soap opera was playing in the background.
Ryan Myers
>but kept repeating slower and slower. 8992 ? If yes, OTH aussi radar. yes, they also shitpost on the air.
Gabriel Flores
>8992 ? If yes, OTH aussi radar. 'twas 8992, but I don't think it was radar. There was a distinct "start of packet" marker before each segment... Sort of like what's going on right now just under 8980.
