I commute to Manhattan every morning on a train to work. Nice ride. Generally cozy and quiet.

It's the most productive outside a plane. It would also be quicker and cheaper to take a train from Dallas to Detroit than a plane.

If I have to spend more than 3 hours in a train I take the plane instead. I don't care if in the end it's longer due to the commute to the airport, security check, etc. after 3 hours in a train I'm so exhausted due to the uncomfort, the noise of shitskins shouting on the phone, ... that I need a full day to recover.

Well that sentence I made was retarded because I forgot to proof-read. What I meant to say is it would be cheaper than a plane, faster than a car. Most Americans do take car rides from San Antonio to Detroit.

Retool Amtrak to be more like the old BR, and build track exclusively for Amtrak. Part of the problem is that in most areas Amtrak is second priority to freight service as they dont own most of the track they run on. Also build new locomotives for high speed service and a few new steamers like pic related, with modern tech to get people interested again. no one cares except rail fans when a diesel comes to town but steamers draw a crowd.

And sorry for saying, some cities are quite nice but holy fuck your infrastructure is old and just not maintained. Also, why is nothing planned? Over here you know a week in advance the platform a train will depart from. I guess in Portugal it is decided last-minute or something.

I don’t understand why so many people in this country act like cars are “freedom” and public transportation makes you feel like a caged rat. For me it’s the exact opposite. I felt a lot more free in the city when I felt I could walk outside when I wanted and wasn’t forced to take a car everywhere. In the suburbs you feel trapped in your car because you need it with you absolutely everywhere you go. Meanwhile in the city there’s a lot of places to walk around on your lunch break or something, and if you grab a drink you can just ride home without worrying about driving. I loved the feeling of just being able to walk to and from work, and taking a short bus ride instead of always just having to drive. With a car it’s like you’re trapped in a pod and have no real interaction with the outside world

Agreed. My commute home by car would take 75-90 minutes dead stop in a car wanting to neck myself. I could get that down to 60-75 minutes if I want to pay 20 bucks for the express lanes.

Train is 55 minutes stress free 95% of the time.

I take a fair number of trains and here are my suggestions:

Trains are ALWAYS late when you need them (rush hour) and if you dare to complain they're always "but we're better than others" no shit I also pay double the price, half-abo costs already a lot plus regional-Abos etc.
They give no shit and are convinced that they are the best while doing nothing to be better because it's a fucking state owned monopoly. And don't get me started on when I used to take the train to travel to the southern part of Switzerland from Zürich, a fucking disaster, forced to get out of trains, waiting for hours in some village because the connections was packed and "oh you can't get inside, you should have reserved" even though they like to jerk their cock saying "we are proud of the fact that you can decide last minute to hop on a train because you don't need a reservation to travel in Switzerland".
They're shit and overpriced, but convinced of being the best at everything. Like most of the services in this country (e. g. Swisscom)

Ok, that's pretty bad (always took the IC trains Genf, Laussanne, Zürich). Especially compared to my shit-country, where they actually have to pay you a taxi if they fail to bring you to your final destination that day. You also pay for the "route". If you are not a retard (tourists never know this), you can go anywhere for 8.30 EUR a trip as an adult without any abbo's.

But why didn't you take Swiss-pass? It is probably a lot cheaper than all those abbo's?
