I did 8 years in the Navy. Stuck at Sasebo for 5 years. God I hate Japanese people. I told the recruiter it was the least desirable place to go, outside of Hawaii and Connecticut. Lo and behold, those were my 3 deployments. I wanted to bomb Hadjis and rape Tent-women but never got the chance. All I did was sit around and eat. Literally never did one useful thing the duration of my "service". My pension is neat though, goes into a savings for my kids.

As soon as the military starts defending our borders instead of fighting Jew-wars, I will.

i was a 12B in afghanistan in 2012. had to watch fatbody staff sergeants get okay'd for deployment, then they tried to get younger guys killed by doing dumb shit like checking IED holes with their multitool while ordering a guy 10 years younger with a lot more to lose to follow them. i had joined under the impression that it was a professional fighting force, what I saw made me afraid for my life and glad that I won't have to be next to these guys in the next world war.

I'm talking about the early 40s chicks. The fucking kids there hate us. We were jumped 5 times at local bars by those fat fucks. After that we just went to the ones right off base

had some army friends in language school who got a pretty sweet deal with a way bigger enlistment bonus and 1 year shorter contract than me. one of them got sent to korea which makes no sense for arabic and one of the others might be getting sent to learn yet another language which is awesome (he already knows 4). army guys I knew just had to do a bunch of dumb extra shit like ruck marches every week, weekend formations, stupid regs in tech school, and had worse dorms.

because military in Poland is full and recruits only for empty spots in paperwork shit nobody wants to do like Logistics or Administration, thus majority of people after the 4-6 month long basic training get simply told to fuck off and go into the reserve
in actual military units for every free spot that shows up there is like 10 reservists hoping to get in on it, most of them never do
the pay is the same as a cashier in retail
no benefits
no equipment - the few soldiers who get deployed have to buy their own gear (like body armor) for their shit pay (unless they're GROM)
you might have PhD in science, but unless you did the 5-year long Military Officer School you start as a private (again unless you wanna be an Lt in shit like Administration, then there is the 1 year officer training option)
zero future prospects

this is the case for most of the world btw, only in USA, UK, France and Australia is there any reason for joining the military (to a lesser degree Belgium and Germany)

there are a few different types of units you can be in as an AF linguist but mostly the duties are similar and you have like a random office job to do when you're not flying (airborne linguist specialty) but not really any extra shit to deal with when you're not working aside from making sure you are current on your various flight-related training events etc.

ground linguists (separate AF speciality) mostly work for NSA or for AF units depending on language and where they are stationed, but they have a much more regular schedule and have less other stuff to worry about

Only thing I really have to do outside of work schedule is maintain language skills but they (are supposed to) give you time at work to do that as well
